After disabling a Gadget in Layout Editor via Layout Options dropdown -> Gadgets, the whole Layout Editor gets loaded into the left iframe, thereby dropping an error message.

The actual Gadget action works and the page can simply be refreshed, so it's a minor issue and no hurry. Just not exactly pretty ;-)
