I can't really tell what's happening in your image.. but as far as z-indexes go, you might be able to fix the problem by assigning a z-index to each of the overlapping areas. So if you have two <div>'s with overlapping content, assign each a z-index according to which one you want to be on top:
<div style="z-index:1">Lower div</div>
<div style="z-index:2"Upper div</div>
